Sesame Street in Communities: Swain Super Sesame Street Kickoff

In August 2022, we partnered with Swain County Schools and Congregations for Children to host a free family event in Swain County. This event focused on community resources, early literacy, and calming techniques for young children. Our special guests for the event were Abby Cadabby and Super Grover.
With the help of volunteers and resources from Swain County and beyond, we provided 135 children and 126 adults with fun activities and valuable resources. Event activities included a visit from the Bryson City Fire Department, a petting zoo courtesy of the Swain County Agriculture Department, sensory stations, face painting, and free giveaways including books for children and families. Manna Food Bank was there distributing food bags, and Catholic Charities provided families with diapers and other essential baby items. In partnership with Food Lion, Mike and Freda Drinkwater provided free hot dog lunches to all families.
This was our first Sesame Street in Communities event and it was most certainly a memorable day for all.
